And i have to say...I liked it FAR better than the first.

The acting was much better. Kristen Stewart did much less *blinky-blink-blink* with her eyes when she was confused. or upset. or just looking at something. Jessica was an AWESOME sort of "come on, I know you are being stupid about your sadness." There was much more tongue in cheek. Aro was over the top foppishily awesome. Alice was always awesome as Alice (except Alice would never wear a PAINTERS SMOCK. Seriously. Never.)

The cinematography was, at times, breathtakingly pretty. I guess too, that i live here and know what the PNW looks like, and how certain lights hit it, and how everything *glows* at times, Chris Weitz seems to understand that. I liked that.

I also like that it never apologized for Bella's depression. So many people have criticized that aspect of the books and movies - how deeply felt and moved Bella was by Edward's absence and rejection of her. I think those people have never felt actual depression. The direction of movement around her while they count the months she spends in the same outfit looking out the same window - looking dead inside - that encapsulates depression so well. People laugh at it it. They don't understand. It's such hell.

None of the feelings felt forced. The dialogue, at times did, but the underlying feelings did not.

Morgan and i had a long discussion about "Romeo and Juliet" afterward, which was the sort of basis and beginning of the movie. R & J were stupid...because they were young and had not had as many life experiences as they might have had in the real world. Why would you kill yourself for someone? I don't know. I could see doing that if your connection was strong enough. If your sadness was deep enough.

I can't criticize Romeo and Juliet. I've been there. I know what that feels like. I can't make fun of the depression Bella has for Edward abruptly leaving her with some lame excuse either, because I've been there. I know it.

Though it has made me question whether my feelings are so juvenile - or is it because most people are so trained to laugh and dismiss feelings like that.
